Why can't sound be heard in space?

There is nothing for the sound waves to pass through. Sound only passes through something with a atmosphere (like earth), but space is purely a vacuum with no particles for the sound waves to pass through.

space is a void full of planet's and stars. there is nothing for sound waves to travel through or bounce off of.
