Let the ratio be x

So Paul's age = 2x

and Luis's age = 3x

The sum of their ages is 35 years

So, 2x + 3x = 35

5x = 35 (add the like terms)

To find x, divide both side by 5

[tex] \frac{5x}{5}= \frac{35}{5} [/tex]

x = 7

Paul's age = 2x = 2(7) = 14 yrs

Luis's age = 3x = 3(7) = 21 yrs

So age of Paul's is 14 yrs and age of Luis's is 21 yrs.
