It would depend on the city you are studying but people generally went to the city for jobs and I would assume growth would be population.  Leisure activities could be things like dining?  The transportation to new areas one could be suburbs?  Lived in fine home on the outskirts could be rural area?  I hope this helped some, good luck! :)
