When it tells us to write in the simplest terms, that means to combine like terms!

For example,

4x and 2x are like terms

and 9 and 7 are like terms!

let's combine them!

(-4x) + (-2x) = -6x

(-9) + (-7) = -16

When we put these two terms together, we get the answer ...

-6x - 16
