I believed the answer to the question above is Physics, math, biology, the periodic table, nutrition, dance, theater, politics, governing bodies, trade, buildings, roads, bridges, taxation and countless other discoveries all started with the great ancient civilizations. Yes they were improved in the middle ages but without these initial discoveries technology could have been set back hundreds to thousands of years.
