The distance between the two points [tex]A(x_A;\ y_A);\ B(x_B;\ y_B)[/tex]

[tex]d=\sqrt{(x_B-x_A)^2+(y_B-y_A)^2}[/tex]

We have A(-4; -5) and B(1; -2). Subtitute:

[tex]d=\sqrt{(1-(-4))^2+(-2-(-5))^2}=\sqrt{5^2+3^2}=\sqrt{25+9}=\sqrt{34}[/tex]
