So, to find the answer to this question, we would substitute the variables in the equation with the x, y coordinated of the solution.

x = 2 and 4 = y

Our equation now looks like this:

4 = 17(2) - 12

4 = 34 - 12

4 = 22

This is not a true statement! Therefore, the point (2,4) cannot be a solution for this equation.
