The basic postulate of the kinetic-molecular theory are:

  • Matter in all its forms are composed of tiny particles called molecules.
  • The particles of matter are in continual motion i.e they possess kinetic energy.
  • Gases are molecules in continuous, random and straight-line motion.
  • Liquids are molecules with less random pattern of motion and can only slide past one another.
  • Solids have restricted motion and molecules vibrates against one another.
  • When molecule collides, they collide with each other and the walls of the  container so there is no loss of energy.
