take the denominator and set it equal to zero, then solve...

x² - x - 2 = 0

(x - 2)(x + 1) = 0

so

x + 1 = 0

   x = -1

Either of these values make the denominator equal zero, so they are not part of the domain of the function (non-permissible numbers)
