The Old Fashioned is literally, the old-fashioned way of making a cocktail.  An old fashioned was served originally without fruit.  Although nowadays, it can be served with a twist (strip or peel ) of lemon or orange.  As the saying goes, There is no orange slice in an Old Fashioned.  There is no cherry in an Old Fashioned. & You do not mash up fruit of any kind in an Old Fashioned.
