Split it up into 2 parts:-

Top part  a triangle
bottom = parallelogram
Counting the squares
Area parallelogram =  base * height = 6 * 3 = 18
Area of triangle = 1/2 * base * height = 1/2 * 6 * 3 =  9

So area of the whole polygon  = 27 sq units
