As a Jamaican-American art therapist living in the age of pandemics and uprisings, I offer creative and cultural ways to cope with stress and trauma. I’ve spent the last 9 years helping people find creative ways to understand stress, and the emotions that come with it. The brain is incredibly adaptive, but in times of high stress we can feel stuck. Creative coping can unlock this feeling, and open new pathways to perform under stress. I’d like to help you build a personal tool box, equipped with unique coping skills that pulls from the unique parts of your identity and the gems in your ancestral past. Together we can create your unique path to healing.
I specialize in anxiety, trauma and identity related stress, ex. racism, school/work-stress, culture-shock, gun-violence etc. I offer evidence-based ways to manage the emotions related to these experiences. I do this through trauma-informed art therapy, EMDR, flow, and mindfulness. I also specialize in communal healing through group therapy.
Our work together does not require artistic skill. Instead, it requires an ounce of adventure, and a desire to try something new. My hope is that new creative skills may help your brain engage in it’s natural healing process.
