My name is Reginald Cunningham, a Doctor of Education, Licensed Professional Counselor, and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, and owner of Counseling Solutions; a home for Black men seeking mental health Counseling.
We currently have several clinicians of color with various backgrounds and education. I have carefully and strategically built my practice with Black men in mind to provide them with culturally, sensitive services to address the many needs in our community.
Over the past several years, I have worked at a variety of mental health facilities in both Maryland and the District of Columbia including The University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins University, Family Matters of Greater Washington, DC, and The Institute for Family Centered services. Additionally, prior to beginning my doctoral training, I spent several years conducting research in addictions and with individuals with serious mental illnesses.
Therapy can be a powerful tool in relieving distress, learning about oneself, and living a more fulfilled life. At the core of our philosophy is the understanding that a nurturing, open, and trusting relationship is paramount for therapy to be successful. To that end, we bring warmth, curiosity, and compassion to my clinical work and aim to foster a safe space where you can freely express our thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. While therapy can be hard work, we aim to work collaboratively with you, to respectfully challenge you, add to assist you to a path toward personal growth and positive change. We believe that everyone possesses strengths and the resources to overcome obstacles; my role will be to help you discover, activate, and build upon your innate abilities in order to live a life you want and deserve.
As Cognitive Behavioral and Humanistic-trained therapists, we aim to help you identify and become more mindful of the origins of your problematic thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is with this increased insight and deepened understanding that you may learn to live more flexibly, authentically, and with a greater sense of self-compassion. Because everyone is unique, I tailor my work to fit each individual’s needs, integrating other treatment modalities when appropriate.
We are devoted to living life from my true self and am committed to assisting others develop the life they want, not the life others want for them.
(In this current climate, all sessions are conducted virtually.)
